Refund status
No refund applicable
Adobe Firefly Image 1 was the first commercial text-to-image model trained entirely on Adobe Stock + public-domain content, making it commercially-safe for advertising and editorial work. When Firefly Image 2 launched in late 2024 with significantly better prompt adherence and photoreal output, Firefly Image 1 was placed in deprecated status. The model identifier still works via legacy API integrations but receives no further training improvements.
Refund flow
- 1
Not applicable. Firefly is bundled into Adobe Creative Cloud subscriptions; there is no separate per-model billing to refund.
- 2
For Adobe Express / Creative Cloud subscribers using Firefly Image 1 specifically, contact Adobe support — they may offer subscription credits if you specifically subscribed for Image 1's commercial-safety guarantee that Image 2/3 inherits anyway.
Migration path
Recommended successor
Adobe Firefly Image 3 (default in Creative Cloud)
Why this is the closest fit
Direct successor inside the same Creative Cloud subscription. Same commercial-safe training data thesis (Adobe Stock + public domain), significantly better prompt adherence and photoreal output.
What differs from the original
Different model behavior on edge cases — output style for identical prompts may differ. Image 3 has stronger composition control and reference-image input. Image 1 had a softer, more painterly default style that some users preferred for editorial work.
What this tool meant
Firefly Image 1 was Adobe's commercial answer to Midjourney + DALL-E — the first text-to-image model with a defensible commercial-safety story for advertising agencies and editorial publishers. The "trained on Adobe Stock + public domain only" claim addressed a real legal anxiety in 2023-2024 about AI image generators trained on scraped content. Image 2 and Image 3 preserved that commercial-safety positioning and built on it. The model itself is gone but the strategic positioning continues.
