Midjourney v5 was the model that established Midjourney's commercial dominance in 2023, with the photoreal output quality that made it the default text-to-image tool for marketing agencies and creator content. When v6 launched in February 2024 with major improvements to text rendering, prompt adherence, and finer detail control, v5 was placed in legacy status. The `--v 5` flag is still accessible in the Discord interface but receives no further model improvements; v7 is the current default.
